I'm sorry to say that I have not read much more of this than of the New York Times list.
My wife is a big fan of A Prayer for Owen Meany and I can easily believe it is a contender.
I read the first half of The New York Trilogy but lost patience with it. It seemed like an achingly dull puzzle.
I've only read one of the books on this list: Empire Falls by Richard Russo. It also happens to be one of the books that I nominated. Gilead and Peace Like A River are on my TBR pile.
I have to say that I'm really pleased Richard Russo's book is among the top contenders. It is definitely a great American novel and deserves to be on the list.
Thanks for sharing a list of the front runners. It will be interesting to see the complete list when you've finished tabulating the results.
From the delay in tabulation, I can only infer that you are using Microsoft Excel.
